Barry-Wehmiller manufactures walking beam and plastic or metallic belt pasteurizers, incorporating many years of experience Barry-Wehmiller has in the design, engineering, and manufacturing pasteurizers. The models are designed with the highest quality components for the best in sanitary design, ease of maintenance, low operating and maintenance costs, and can process glass bottles or metal cans.
Barry-Wehmiller pasteurizers convey the product through a controlled temperature environment using an external drive system.Heat transfer is achieved through water sprays delivered over the product by spray headers spanning the width of the pasteurizer.
Features and Benefits
Walking Beam Pasteurizer
- All linkages are external, which makes the maintenance function easier.
- Rugged 3/8" (9.5mm) wall thickness for long-lasting life.
- Process sprays to optimize heat transfer to the product. In addition, the sprays are on the top deck only, eliminating the need for trays and pans, reducing maintenance requirements.
- Thermal regenerative zones minimize utility consumption.
- One hydraulically-driven movable grate supported on rollers and one fixed grate reduce operating and maintenance costs. Optional ½" grate for small diameter cans and bottles is also available.
- Automatic level controllers prevent overflow from reservoirs and reduce water usage.
- The pasteurizer can be manufactured in carbon or stainless steel according to your needs.
- The pasteurizer includes an electrical control panel and operator control display station with functions such as start/stop, product selection, automatic/manual, zone temperature indications, alarm status, manual pump and valve operations, manual temperature adjustments, tank level indicator, and pump and valve status.
- A variety of PU (Pasteurization Unit) control systems are available. Ranging up to the most advanced PU Control System in the industry which virtually eliminates out of specification pasteurization.
Plastic Belt Pasteurizer
- Single, modular, raised-rib polyethylene belt across the entire width of the pasteurizer provides container stability.
- Strong skeletal structure with light-gauge skins provides long service life.
- Smaller water reservoirs decrease fill time and warm-up time.
- Low operating and maintenance costs. Minimal number of moving parts.
- Zero on-site welding design reduces installation and start-up time.
- Process sprays optimize heat transfer to the product. In addition, the sprays are on the top deck only, for maximum access and reduced maintenance requirements.
- Automatic level controllers prevent overflow from reservoirs and reduce water usage.

New Developments
- Single heat exchanger system reduces maintenance by:
- Requiring a single heating unit, as opposed to multiple heating units.
- Precise control of spray temperature.
- Almost instantaneous restart after a production stop.
- Decreased initial heating time at production start-up.
- Improved utility consumption with a lower horsepower requirement and less heat utilized during warm-up and operation.
- Sloped and gusseted tank sections for ease of maintenance.
- The capability to provide digital manuals to ease maintenance.
- Best in industry PU limit system. Holds PU specification AND temperature profile.
- Live infeed and minimal "back-up" discharge.
